happy thanksgiving holiday

i want to wish everyone celebrating today a happy and safe holiday - though i am not a huge fan, i am a huge fan of being thankful.

i am thankful for my family and all the fans all over the world - i can’t tell you how thankful i am for your ongoing support. i know, i say it a lot but i couldn’t do what i do without all you - so thank you again from my family to all of yours.

i will be on the road again soon (hopefully) and can’t wait to see you all in person.

until then, stay lucky - stay safe.

our holiday episode is special not only to me, but to the day as well -

Unthanksgiving Day

In 1969, a number of Native American members of the Alcatraz-Red Power Movement group Indians of All Tribes (IAT) occupied the island of Alcatraz, under the terms of the 1868 Treaty of Fort Laramie that allocated surplus government land to Native Americans. The occupation lasted for 19 months, from November 20, 1969 to June 11, 1971. They were visited by members of the American Indian Movement (AIM) who, inspired by the occupation, led other protests, the first on Thanksgiving in 1970 when they painted Plymouth Rock red.[1] The latter protest continued as the National Day of Mourning. The US government ended the Alcatraz occupation with force. During the occupation, hundreds of Native Americans joined the movement to speak out for their rights. This was part of a heavy period of Indian activism and protest at a time when the civil rights movement in the United States amongst minorities was at a height.

my father was one of the many native people spending thanksgiving in protest at the famous Alcatraz prison - though he only spend the holiday weekend there, others stayed for months.

looking back on my father - he always went out of his way to help others in need, its just who he is - even those undeserving of his kindness. he seemed to not have a resentful bone in his soul…i on the other hand.

there is not many people i look up to, but i can say without a doubt - there is no one better than my father and he would say he’s better than no one. still today he makes me want to be better than i am and im very proud to be his son.
